Welcome to MSJF

Helping the people of Powhatan protect, enhance and enjoy the places that matter to them.

Preserving Powhatan's Legacy

Powhatan county is full of remarkable places that tell the American story - and they need your help. From historic chapels and buildings to ancient sites, from our numerous natural resources to the environment at large - many of these icons and ecosystems are endangered as never before. Join the Michaux-St. James Foundation and help us save these irreplaceable gems.

The Michaux-St. James Foundation, a privately funded nonprofit organization, provides leadership, education, advocacy, and resources to save and preserve central Virginia's diverse historic places and revitalize our communities.

The St. James Chapel

The St. James Chapel is the crown jewel of our organization. This charming, Circa 1882 structure, along with it's companion The Sallie Michaux House, is owned and maintained by MSJF as our local community center. Located near the James River, the St. James Chapel has on its borders the distinctive Birdland Sculpture Gardens, the historic Miles House circa 1811, and the designated Virginia scenic byway of Old River Trail. The property lies adjacent to the intersection of Old River Trail and Maidens Road which provides the gateway to the soon-to-open Powhatan State Park.
